The Diocesan Choir is a non-auditioned choir, formed by choir members and music directors of the parishes of the diocese. It serves the needs of the diocese by participating at Masses and events presided over by the Bishop of Birmingham.
The Diocesan Choir has several goals, among them, are:
a) Provide music for liturgies presided over by the Bishop of Birmingham, at a high musical standard.
b) Serve as a musical model for what can be accomplished in the parishes of the diocese.
c) Provide opportunities for its members to grow both spiritually and musically through offerings such as workshops, convocations, retreats, etc.
The Diocesan Choir is divided into two divisions:
Huntsville Division: Rehearses at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville. Choir members from parishes around the Northern region of the diocese are invited to participate in this division.
Birmingham Division: Rehearses at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover. Choir members from parishes around the Central region of the diocese are invited to participate in this division.
Both divisions join for singing at Masses and events.
