Reverend James Regis Macey, a priest of the Diocese of Birmingham, passed away at the age of 76. He was born in Greensburg, PA to Andrew and Mary Macey. He is preceded in death by his parents and his dear wife of 37 years, Juanita. He is survived by his brother John F. Macey, his son Christopher, his daughters Lydia Ann Macey-Adkinson and Judith Macey, and his grandson Grey Adkinson.
Father Macey retired as a Lt. Colonel after 29 years in the Air Force, taught as an associate professor at Troy State Montgomery, was ordained a permanent deacon in 2000, and after the death of his wife, he entered studies for the priesthood and was ordained in 2007.
As a priest Father Macey served as an associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier parish in Birmingham and was the pastor of both St. Charles Borromeo parish in Jacksonville and St. Joachim parish in Piedmont for nine years until his retirement in 2017.
The Funeral Mass was Aug. 25 at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Father Macey was interred next to his wife at Prattville Memorial Chapel & Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary, Weston, MA.
