Mass honoring Father James E. Coyle set for Aug. 10 at the Cathedral of St. Paul
Let us remember a holy priest killed in the line of duty on Friday, Aug. 10, at the 12:10 p.m. Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 2120
3rd Ave. North, in Birmingham. Reception and Reflection on the Life and Legacy of Father Coyle to follow. For more information, please visit www.fathercoyle.org or call 205-447-8796.
On August 11, 1921 Father Coyle was shot and fatally wounded as he sat in the swing on his rectory front porch by an enraged minister whose daughter’s marriage to a dark-skinned Puerto Rican Father Coyle had presided over less than two hours before he was shot.
