A pilgrimage into nonviolence
Mary’s House Advent Retreat, Dec. 8-10
Advent is a season of pilgrimage and a time of sacred travel. It’s a season of transformation, an invitation to be born again, and a time of embracing God’s peace.
Join Marie Dennis and Rose Marie Berger on this retreat where we will explore the Catholic Church’s pilgrimage toward nonviolence and peace. We will build on the stories and experiences of those who gather and encourage lively dialogue between our own stories and Pope Francis’ words in his message “Nonviolence: A Style of Politics for Peace.” We will also explore the international roundtable process occurring over the next year to lay the groundwork for a possible encyclical on recentering nonviolence at the heart of the Catholic Church.
Marie Dennis, co-president of International Pax Christi, and Rose Marie Berger, editor at Sojourners magazine, are both working with the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace and Cardinal Turkson.
The retreat begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 and runs through noon on Sunday, Dec. 10. It will be held at the Rush Center in Midfield. The cost is $60 for days only or $65 for those sleeping over. Price includes all meals. To register contact Mary’s House, 205-780-2020, 2107 Ave. G, Birmingham 35218 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
