ACFL is a sports ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, sponsored by the Office of Religious Education and Catholic Extension. Its purpose is to assist players in growing as disciples of Christ and witnesses for him in the Church and in the world. Through its activities, it aims to build up participants in skill, personal virtue, and in Christian friendship with one another.

The ACFL will organize a series of "friendlies," soccer matches among competing Catholic teams in August and September, leading up to the ACFL Championship in October 2023. It will assist teams in developing their branding (names, logos, etc.) and in outfitting league players with team uniforms. It will assist with providing resources for sports ministry and with ongoing promotion of league players and events.
